The eight Primary Care Networks in the Edmonton Zone are working together to promote virtual group patient education classes that are open to anyone in the Edmonton Zone.

Below is a list of the patient education group classes from the other seven PCNs in the Edmonton Zone.

Emotional Regulation:

For those who have difficulty controlling their emotions and feels that their behaviour is causing chaos in their life. Learn and practice mindfulness skills to cope with emotionally stressful situations.

Anxiety to Calm:

Anxiety to Calm is a simple, positive and empowering class. It is for those who want to have an opportunity for a healthy learning process to manage their anxiety. Anxiety to Calm moves people to action. The classes teaches low tech and low cost skills that should be accessible to everyone.

Changeways:

Eating the Mediterranean Way:

The Mediterranean diet is an evidence-based diet proven to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and helps with weight management. This way of eating is popular in countries such as Greece, Italy, Morocco and Spain. Learn how incorporating foods like vegetables, fruits, lentils, lean proteins and nuts can be beneficial to your health and well-being.

Introduction to Mindful Eating Active Living:

If you’ve struggled with being on diets in the past, have frequent food cravings or often feel uncomfortable in your body, this class could be for you. The introductory class offers you a different non-diet approach so that you may better understand why you eat the way you do.You’ll be given tools to help increase a feeling of control over food and satisfaction with eating. The class is designed to give you a different perspective on weight loss with an overall goal of helping you feel at peace with your body.

Changeways:

Changeways is a group designed to help you combat stress, anxiety and depression. Developed using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, you will learn skills to help challenge negative and distorted thinking in order to create a healthy lifestyle and build a good support network.
During this workshop, you will learn ways to boost your mood and overcome feelings of stress and anxiety. Group facilitators will teach you mindfulness techniques and how to incorporate relaxation into your life, while also talking about the importance of nutrition, exercise and self-care. Participants will create weekly goals to practice in between classes and learn how to make sustainable changes to better their lives.

Relaxation:

The Relaxation group is an introduction to very effective relaxation techniques. In four-weeks, you will learn ways to incorporate relaxation into your life regularly. This class is great for you if you’re looking to be more present in the moment and for ways to combat anxiety, depression and stress. Some of the techniques taught in the Relaxation class are: deep breathing, mindfulness, progressive muscle relaxation, visualization.
